Shared goals

We all want our AFM to be powerful, visible and respected. We’ve made progress, and need to do more. On this we all agree.

Power comes from action, activity coordinated and focused by strategy and great communications. Meeting regularly with SAG-AFTRA, DGA, WGA, IATSE, Teamsters and others in the Entertainment Union Coalition on behalf of the AFM gives me an insider’s view of how other entertainment unions function in the legislative and public spheres.

What comes across clearly is the need for policy and action to be strategic, focused, sustained and coordinated. Our union siblings, at their best, combine dedicated resources with member action, organizing, active and unified leadership, effective lobbying and great communications.

Our current administration has made great strides in this direction. The inclusion of professional in-house research capacity, the dramatic expansion of our organizing capacity and the upgrade in our lobbying presence have all allowed us to up our game in the public eye. And, all of this is taking place against the backdrop of the most anti-union and chaotic U.S. administration we have ever experienced.

I’m committed to working to support and cultivate the new strengths, maintaining a clear focus on strategy, organizing, sustained focus and communications. Check back for more posts.
